Poster #22 was a collaborative effort and spans the entire existence of our little festival: the banner was designed by Alex Pavlenko for the very first poster in 1987. The white flowers were a feature of the 1994 poster conceived and designed by Helen Folkmann, and combined tastefully together with Alex`s banner by graphic artist Samara Kemp, whose fine touch is evident throughout our website.
The sillouette of Willie P. comes from the hand of Peter G. Craig, and the symbolic knot and trees, as well as the compass rose were drawn by Gillian Moranz.
The compass rose was in fact a tattoo of Willie`s which he had on his chest, representing the wanderlust and the search for the true nature of things that is at the core of any music worth listening to -- the Welsh Triads even say "...if one is to become a poet they must embrace the harp, sorrow, and the wandering road. "
The Turk`s head knot stands for the endless way of it; rooted to the knot are three trees: the Willow, for the banishment of sadness and mourning after losing one we love; the mighty Silver Fir, for its strength and clear vision above all those around it; and the Ewe Tree, symbolizing the lifecycle, death and rebirth.
